The Super Update Post

Ah, so I've forgotten to post in the past couple of weeks. Forgive me Nancy, Jen and other daily blog readers. So it's been an eventful past couple of weeks- where to start? Well first off Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone, with good weather for the first time since 2002. I did my usual stint at the Copacabana for "Freestyle Fever 2005" and the turnout was amazing. The crowd was the most receptive, energetic crowd I've ever played for, freestyle or otherwise. Jay, George and I then headed over to Avalon where we met up with some of our other friends and hung out there for a couple of hours. It was a rare occurance- me being stone cold sober while my friends were totally trashed. Whatever- fun times. It was a great weekend and I'm definately pumped for the summer. We've had some good times the past couple of weeks- ironically all taking place on Staten Island. Jarrod and Jessica's engagement party, and the subsequent afterhours at the Black Dog was an awesome time, as was our night out at Vision Lounge in Huguenot (last visited as the Doo Wop Shoppe in the early 90's) for Chris Beck's birthday- where I proceeded to drop countless sums of money on Quick Draw. This weekend we're going down to Asbury to party at Paradise club and the following weekend we're going to AC for Jen's 24th B-day. Too bad I'm broke this month, so I sort of have to show some restraint with spending.

What else, what else...Oh so James, my trainer, got fired and has been replaced by this guy Mikey who I don't particularly love like I love James. James is my boy. But today I found out he might be coming back- which if he does I'm going to be happy as hell- considering I'm only paying 2G's for another 50 sessions and I'd like to get the most out of it. Speaking of 19th Street Gym, I DJ'ed there last Friday. Fun times. It's good practice I guess. I really have to stop relying on that 14 minute Johnny Vicious remix of "It's Not Right But It's Okay" though. Must break that habit! On the note of DJ'ing, Hosh and I had lunch on Saturday and he formally agreed he would be my manager, whatever that means. I'll believe it when he starts getting me booked. What else did my super-boss Hosh do...oh yeah...I'm probably getting a raise within the next month or so. Yay. 40G's here I come (fingers crossed).

I had dinner with Frank Manzo last week. So happy to be able to talk to someone about dance music who just understands everything. My boy Drew G got a spot opening up at Roxy, so I'll have to go hear him- he's another one who "gets it". DJ Superstardom is something that envelops my thoughts most of the day. But that's a whole post within itself.

I am very proud of Jay- for quitting smoking. It's been two weeks and he's only smoked a little bit when he's out and drunk, which is actually okay in my book. As long as he sticks to it, he'll be fine. I'm really hoping he gets through this, as I'm sort of viewing this little experiment in willpower and responsibility and considering it on a larger scale. After all, it's an incredible feeling knowing that someone you love was strong enough to beat an addiction like smoking a pack a day. So with that said, I just hope he's able to beat this. Maybe even get his ass in the gym or something. I worry about him lol.

Things at home are eh. Some stuff went down Monday morning, but I really don't have the energy to go into it, but I really do think I need to start seeing a therapist. Sometimes I just get really down about the state of affairs in my house, and I think its time that I start working myself out- mentally.

Ok this post was long and rambling- but what can I say- alot goes on and I like to document it all!

Exciting Night

Ok- so a lot happened tonight, and even though its 1:30 am and I have yet to go to bed before 1:30 this week as I promised myself I would do in my last post- I had to write all about what went on today. So Hosh came by the office at 5 o'clock and we walked 3 blocks over to 15th street to Tony Moran's studio to see Deborah Cox recording her new song (Hosh is like, not quite managing her- but coordinating her projects since J records dropped her). So on the way we talked about the whole me DJ'ing vs. my day job thing. I told him my concerns about what's going to happen if I start getting booked for weekday gigs how am I going to do both. He told me not to worry, that we'd deal with it when it happens, but it was a real relief to see that he understood that is IS going to happen, and he's cool with it and he doesn't think I'm trying to ditch him when he needs me the most (the highlight was Hosh saying "well, if you do leave Diggit then the minute you leave, I become your manager and book all your gigs"). So we go to the studio (8 million fucking degrees down there, I was dying thank God I had a bottle of water with me) and there is Deborah Cox (for all of you uneducated in the world of secular music- Deborah's hits include "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here", "Things Just Ain't The Same", "Easy As Life", "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven", "Mister Lonely", "Absolutely Not", "I Never Knew"...etc....). So Deborah sounded fucking amazing singing the new track. The song is HOT. I don't know if I'm really at liberty to say much about the title and things like that, so I won't. But it's gonna be big. She graciously signed my 12" records and she was really nice. Of course, I got to see Tony hard at work. Tony is like, my absolute idol. I'll go into that more another time. So Tony tells me that the last CD I gave him when we had gone out to lunch that he listens to it all the time and how awesome I am and how my mixes sound great. That right there made my night. Someone of Tony's stature likes MY work! Tony is only like, one of the biggest circuit DJ's on earth. We bullshitted about the "freestyle days" when we were taking a break eating pizza (ugh) and he told me that I'm the man because I'm one of the few people he associates with that knows anything about him from his pre-circuit DJ days and how its awesome that I know so much about that world even though I was very young at the time. So basically Tony had me floating on air tonight. Hosh made me feel very validated- asking my opinions on certain aspects of the song and just overall really asking me to contribute my opinion. Talk about something I don't get at my day job :-)

Ok- now I must get to sleep- but I definately scored big tonight!

Give It Up

I got to give it up
Find someone to love me
I got to let it go
Find someone that I can care for

So it's been an eventful last couple of days. First off, Federico is home for the week from Chicago. It looks like he's moving back to SI for good in June, so we're all excited to have him back. It was very relaxing to spend my Tuesday evening in his basement, as we have done for the past seven years, looking for the "tubchumming" video on consumption junction (don't ask- you had to be there). Work is going okay, mainly because Bill's been gone and it's been so quiet. That won't last forever however. I'm toying with the idea of seeing if I can work 4 days a week instead of asking for raise. That way I can DJ during the week. Speaking of DJ'ing, this is probably going to be my last Friday at Aqua. Good riddance to that (see previous posts).

So this weekend the game plan is to basically get through Friday night at Aqua, then Saturday do my KTU mix, maybe meet up with Frank- who we've been trying to coordinate this all week- go to Colo Saturday night (with Federico maybe) and relax on Sunday and drop my mix off at KTU at some point.

Ok, it's off to bed now. I'm determined to be asleep before 1:30, as I've been going to bed too late the past couple of days!
