Crash & Burn

So once again my imagination gets the best of me...

Last night was the opening night of Club Aqua, the old Atlantis for those who remember back a couple of years ago (ironically, the first place I ever saw Judy, Cynthia and Safire perform). Anyways, about a month ago I signed on to be the Friday night resident DJ upon the opening of the club, which I was pretty psyched about considering I'm really trying to get back into the swing of DJ'ing. Plus, its a Staten Island club (the only one), close to home, decent money and should most likely bring in a HUGE crowd the very first week, right? Wrong...unless you count the dreaded middle aged Staten Island 45 year olds dressing and acting like they're 18 crowd. The very thought of them makes me sick to my stomach. You know who I'm talking about...the stupid looking mafioso wanna-be guys dressed like Johnny Sack on the Sopranos who think they're impressing the world by giving the cocktail waitress a 50$ tip. And their horrific looking wives/girlfriends, who couldn't look a day younger than 50 if they tried (and try they do)- complete with stretch marks, cellulite and tight 1984 hair and outfits. There's nothing more depressing than having a boozy middle aged broad with vodka breath pulling on your arm while you're DJ'ing and slurring such gems as "heyyyyy ughhh play some ugh ummm disco". Very attractive. There were some young people there, but not enough to make the night worthwhile to me. This is going to be an ongoing project, because this is too good an opportunity to lose to a bunch of Sopranos-wannabe middle aged Staten Island trash.

If I am ever 45 years old and pretending like I'm 18, shoot me in the head

3:00 and I'm still not dressed yet...Jay hasn't yet called to see how my night went..Haven't eaten yet...Mix to still edit...Must DJ tonight in Jersey....

Definately taking next Friday off from work

NY Air Awards

Yesterday I found out that I have been nominated for a NY Air Award. The NY Air Awards is an awards show sponsored by the March Of Dimes that celebrates excellence in the world of broadcasting. I was nominated for "Best Mixshow DJ", along with two of my friends and fellow KTU mixmasters Johnny Rocks and Jenny Costa, as well as some others from other radio stations. I don't even care about winning the damn thing, I'm just psyched that I even got so far as to be nominated. For me, that's recognition enough (although I'm sure the actual night of the event I will be praying that it's me that wins of course).

In other news, things have been going OK. DJ'ing is picking up, as I start my Friday night residency at the brand new SI nightclub Aqua next week, as well as some other upcoming gigs that I am already booked for through March and April. It's a good thing I'm going to start making some cash DJ'ing, as my bank account it being bled dry with personal trainers and reclining chairs and parents that I owe money to. Everything else is fine. Work has been okay, although I'm beginning to get the creeping feeling that "once I'm working consistently enough DJ'ing I can ditch this 9-5 and just concentrate on my music all the time". Realistic, maybe, but I think I'm jumping the gun a little bit on that one.
